Growing up I always wanted to be a teacher.  My favorite game to play with my little brothers and friends was school. I loved having a mother as a teacher because it meant I got to help her grade papers with colorful pens, decorate bulletin boards, and put smelly stickers on students’ papers.  Finally, in August of 2001, I was hired to be a fifth grade teacher.  I was so excited and eager to finally pursue my career in education.  To this day, I still look forward to the start of every school year, decorating my own classroom and meeting my new students.  The majority of my 10 years of teaching have been in the fifth grade.  After teaching for a few years, I realized how much I enjoyed teaching reading and writing.  Teaching children to read and write well is one of the most important skills we can teach.  This inspired me to get a Master’s degree in Literacy Instruction at Northeastern University.  I am a certified reading specialist who believes strongly in fostering a love for reading and writing in children.  Every year I strive to help my students to become lifelong readers and writers.

When I am not spending time teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, family and friends.  I love to go for long runs along the lake and practicing yoga.  I also love to take trips and travel whenever I get the chance.  Of course my absolute favorite hobby is relaxing on the couch with a good book!
