One of my favorite quotes is “A good teacher remembers what it was like to be taught by their favorite teacher.”  To me, this is so true.  I will always remember my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Ureal.  She made school and learning fun.  She made us think, be responsible, communicate and share.  Books had meaning, words made sense, math wasn’t just numbers.  This is the type of teacher that made a difference; this is who I try my very best to be for every student that walks through my door.  I know that each student is unique in their own way and I will facilitate those needs by making sure curriculum is differentiated and interesting to all.

I was born and raised in Chicago and grew up going to Chicago Public Schools.  This is why working for CPS and at Newberry is such an honor; I am able to give back to the community that made me who I am today!  Following my degree in Elementary Education from DePaul University, I received a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from American College of Education.  I completed my student teaching at Newberry in 2002 and have been here ever since!  I have been lucky enough to teach so many wonderful students that have truly impacted my life and who have become a part of me, while my life has grown and changed.  This past June, I was lucky enough to witness the first class I taught graduate from the eighth grade, which was a very honoring experience.

When I am not at school, being a teacher, I am a wife and a mom. My husband and I have a  three-yearold son, Owen, and a one-year old a baby girl named Iyla.  I enjoy reading, cooking and spending time with my family.
