NEWBERRY PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION (PTO)
Newberry's PTO is dedicated to enhancing opportunities for our children's education, and to building a strong community of families to support our children's growth and development. These goals are accomplished through ongoing communications, events and fundraising.
Please let us know if you have a question or would like to volunteer for an event. We'd love to hear from you!
Enjoy and Support PTO Events
The PTO hosts several annual events for Newberry kids and families, ranging from in-school entertainment for different grade levels, to informative learning-focused talks from teachers, to fun-filled social gatherings. Friends of Newberry sends group email blasts keep parents up to date as events approach. More volunteers are always welcome! If you'd like to volunteer to help at an event, send an email to friends_of_newberry@yahoo.com.
Joining the PTO is another way to help support the school and stay involved. Just download, print and complete the PTO Membership Form and send it in to school with your child. Membership forms are also available in the kiosk outside the school office.

Annual PTO Events
First Day of School Welcome - This is a great way to calm parents' first day jitters and meet other Newberry families. The PTO provides coffee, juice, pastries, and the opportunity to socialize with fellow parents.
Newberry Gold & Silver Festival - The Newberry back-to-school party for all families, held in the Newberry playground on a Saturday in September. Lots of fun and a great way to meet other families!
Fall Festival - This annual celebration for grades K-2 includes seasonal activities, games, fall treats, and all-around fun. The Fall Festival is held during school hours in October.
Movie Day - Students in grades 3-5 come together to watch a movie during school hours before the Winter Break.
Winter Dance - Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders count the days to our most popular event for older students. Held in the school gym, the Winter Dance features an age-appropriate DJ, the kids' favorite music, and dance games that will bring even a wall flower out onto the floor.
Teacher Appreciation Luncheon - This annual event held on Spring Report Card Pick Up Day celebrates the fine work of Newberry's faculty and staff. The PTO provides a catered lunch and Newberry families bring the desserts.
Taste of Newberry End of Year Party - Take the delicious flavors of the traditional Taste of Newberry potluck dinner, add festivities for the whole family to celebrate the coming of summer and the completion of another successful school year, and enjoy this event! To be held at the end of May.
Reading is Fundamental (RIF) - The PTO enjoys a partnership with Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. whose mission is to prepare and motivate children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to those children and families who need them most. At Newberry, RIF books are distributed to all Newberry students three times during the academic year - usually in December, February and April. Students are able to select one age-appropriate book each time from a wide variety of engaging titles.
Garden Beautification - The fantastic Newberry Academy Discovery Garden is the fruit of the Garden Committee's labor. Newberry teacher Ms Jean Capper leads this committee and welcomes school help in the garden. Garden work days take place on Saturday mornings during the growing (and clean-up!) seasons. Calls for volunteers go out via email blast in advance of a workday.
