Playlot Capital Campaign
Through the generous support of Newberry’s neighbors and school community, and a commitment by CPS to complete our capital campaign efforts more than $600,000 has been committed to begin construction of a new turf field and playground.
Phase I began this summer that included upgrading the school parking lot, enhancing lighting and providing additional waste removal and storage facilities. These all will be completed before school starts September 6, 2011.
Phase II includes a 9,200 sq. ft. turf field, new playground equipment and ADA upgrades such as new ramps and a water fountain. This project will be submitted for City permitting August 16, 2011. All playlot construction will be completed this fall. From the time that the City approves the permit application, the construction is scheduled to take 8-10 weeks.
Maintenance and Equipment Fund Needed!
While we are excited to see the school and community reach its goal to begin construction, we also know that maintaining the turf field in quality condition has additional maintenance costs not previously covered by CPS operating dollars. We are establishing a $20,000 maintenance and equipment fund.
To keep the field in a good state of repair we estimate that we will need an additional $1,000 annually for proper maintenance of the field. We are continuing to reach out to the school and neighborhood community to establish a restricted fund for field maintenance of $15,000 to cover the next 15 years of maintenance – the life of the field. We are also seeking $5,000 for goals and nets and sports equipment for use on the field.
If you had intended to contribute the campaign and didn’t get the chance, please consider making donations for field maintenance. We hope that the field will be a vital asset to the school and neighborhood for years to come.
