In May, Newberry Upper Grade students had a chance to cash in their Bobcat Bucks earned through good behavior and good citizenship, to participate in a Harlem Shake video in the school gymnasium. We are so pleased to know that our Upper Grade students have saved up their Bobcat Bucks so that they could be a part of such a fun activity!

The Newberry Air Conditioner Project: We’re Nearly Complete!
Over the course of this year, we have used school discretionary money gained by LDS church rental income to fund our air conditioner project, whereby each of our classrooms will have units before the end of this academic year. Beginning in the fall, window spaces were measured and the school was surveyed to determine whether electricity upgrades were needed. In April new outlets were installed near windows and gradually, classrooms are seeing these new additions to their physical space. We are very pleased with this improvement and halfway complete!

The NED Show Came to Newberry …
On April 9th, 2013, Todd from The NED Show came to our school to conduct a character building assembly with our Kindergarten – 6th Grade students. The NED Show comes to schools to motivate and inspire students to Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. Using skits and various tricks with the yo-yo, Todd performed The NED Show positive message in an engaging, fun and memorable way.
The show came to our school free of charge because they use the ‘pay it forward’ model by selling yo-yo’s for five days following the show.

March 14th … Pi Day!
In order to demonstrate that Pi is an irrational number with no end and no
pattern, the 7th and 8th graders created a Pi chain that wraps around the hallway on the 2nd floor. They used different colored strips of paper to represent numbers so that it is clear that there is not a repeating pattern of any type. Come take a look at our Pi chain on the walls of the 2nd floor!
Buddy Lunches
Students in 1st through 8th grade attended a Buddy Lunch on February 19-22 with a student a few years younger or older than them. Buddies met for the first time, ate together, chatted and decorated a piece of the Buddy Quilt. Each pair of Buddies will get to know each other at monthly events throughout the year; Buddies will also watch out for each other at school and on the playground as well as send messages to each other through Buddy Mail.
Many thanks to Ms. Froman and Mrs. Cipriani for leading this ongoing activity!
